    If Sue and Aaron are seeing patients and cannot answer your call, please leave a message, and they will return your call as soon as possible.

  • How long should I book for my initial and subsequent appointments?

    For your initial appointment, you will need to book a 55-minute slot. Even if you’ve seen the physiotherapist before, you’ll still need to book a 55-minute slot initially so that a full assessment can be carried out. This allows for a comprehensive assessment.

    Subsequent appointments will be 25 minutes each.

    An introductory email will be sent to you, confirming the appointment time and attaching information about attending the clinic and relevant consent forms.

    Reception cover is available between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to Friday.

  • What happens during my first appointment?

    During your first appointment, your details will be recorded, and a detailed assessment will be performed. This assessment consists of two parts:

    1. History Assessment: You’ll discuss your condition and past medical history to ensure that treatment doesn’t adversely affect any other conditions you may have.

    2. Objective Tests: These tests may require you to remove some clothing. Wearing or bringing loose-fitting clothing or shorts can be helpful.



    The assessment helps diagnose your condition, plan treatment, and set recovery goals.

  • What should I bring to my first appointment?

    Please bring your completed consent form, which is attached to your introductory email. The consent form serves several purposes:

    • It confirms your understanding of the cancellation and privacy statement/policy.

    • It specifies your preferences for data sharing.

    • It indicates your agreement to pay for private physiotherapy treatment.

    If you don’t have access to a printer, there will be copies of the consent form available for you to sign at your initial appointment.



    Wearing or bringing loose-fitting clothing or shorts can be helpful.

  • How can I make payment?

    Payment can be made by cash or cheque. Unfortunately, there is no card machine for self-funding clients, but BACs details can be provided.



    The fees are £60 for the initial assessment and £50 for follow-up appointments. Homevisits are £75 each visit.



    If you’re using insurance, have your insurance details ready. It’s advisable to check with your insurers before treatment begins.

  • Is there parking available at EffectivePhysio?

    Yes, there is parking available. You can park in the space in front of the garage or in the layby down the road. Please be mindful not to block any other cars.

  • Is there a waiting room?

    Unfortunately, there is no waiting room. However, to accommodate any occasional delays, there is a gap between appointments. Please wait in your car until your appointment time, and the physiotherapist will call you in from the gate on your left.

  • Are there toilet facilities available?

    Yes, there are toilet facilities on the ground floor next to the clinic room.

  • What equipment is available for treatment?

    The following equipment can be loaned out to assist your treatment regime:

    • Wobble board

    • TENS machine

    • Muscle stimulation machine

    • Ankle weights

    These items are free of charge.



    Yes, there will be a small charge of £1 for strapping materials, electrode pads, or exercise bands used during treatment. 



    If you need to buy any equipment, supports or strapping, the physiotherapist will advise you where and what to buy.

  • Can I get copies of exercises and advice sheets?

    Yes, exercises and advice sheets can be sent to you by email or photocopied for you. 

    Exercises have a description and a picture and video to remind you how to do the exercise.

  • What infection control measures are in place in the clinic?

    • Wearing a mask is not mandatory but if preferred there are face masks available and the physiotherapist will also wear a mask.
    • Your physiotherapist will be hand sanitising and sanitising all equipment between clients. All the internal covers have been removed from the treatment bed. A disposable paper towel is used to cover the bed and is disposed of after use. Detergent and disinfectant wipes are used to wipe down the bed and equipment after each use. 
    • There will be hand sanitiser at the entrance to the practice for clients use.
    • The car can be parked outside clinic for social distancing whilst waiting.
    • Appointment times will be longer to prevent overlap of patients attending and to allow time for the physiotherapist to clean and sanitise the clinic between patients. 
    • Please do NOT ATTEND EffectivePhysio if you have any COVID symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has had COVID.

  • Are remote physiotherapy appointments available?

    • Remote appointments are available and can be carried out either by telephone or Skype, Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp.
    • Please book your appointment by telephone or email as usual and inform the physiotherapist of your preferred option. Information and a consent form will be sent to you via email.
    • Please give consent by completing a remote physio consent form if you are happy for remote consultations to go ahead and send by email to sue_cowley@hotmail.com. GDPR laws and confidentiality will be followed as usual. There will not be any recordings of the assessment or follow ups. Records are kept as paper form in the usual way abiding by data protection rules.
    • The physiotherapist will contact you at the allotted time. Please be available at that time.
    • Your appointment may have been sent as an invitation via email in some cases such as Zoom. Please look out for the email and click on the link at the allocated time.
    • The assessment will take the same format as a face to face assessment except you will not be required to undress and some objective tests will not be carried out.
    • If it is felt that the condition can be managed remotely by sending an exercise program to you, giving advice and instructions for self-treatment techniques then a follow up remote consultation will be arranged.
    • If further manual tests or manual treatment techniques are required, the physiotherapist will discuss your options with you to decide whether to book a face to face appointment next time. 
    • Prices remain the same for face to face or remote consultations.

  • What financial agreement should I be aware of?

    You undertake to pay Sue Cowley for the service/treatment as a private physiotherapy patient. This statement will be included in the consent form attached to your introductory email.



    If you’re using medical insurance, check with your insurers to establish the level of cover on your policy before treatment commences. 



    EffectivePhysio will seek payment from your insurer or third-party funder. If payment has not been made for any treatment (in part or whole), you will be held responsible for the outstanding balance.



    The clinic reserves the right to recover any unpaid sums, including any cost of recovery.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

    Clients must cancel an appointment 48 hours or more before the scheduled time. Failure to attend or late cancellations (within 48 hours) will result in a charge of the full treatment cost.



    Insurance companies typically do not cover the cost of failures to attend or cancellations, hence clients will be asked to pay the outstanding balance.

  • What about confidentiality and privacy?

    All physiotherapists adhere to the Health Care Professionals Council and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s code of conduct, ensuring confidentiality. EffectivePhysio also has a certificate for data protection from ICO (the Information Commissioner’s Office).



    You will be asked to sign the consent form attached to your introductory email, indicating your understanding of the cancellation policy and granting consent for information sharing when writing reports to outside agencies.



    The privacy policy is found at the bottom of the website pages and will also be sent attached to the introductory email.
